What is Braces/Wire Treatment?
Braces are the most common orthodontic treatment. Small, square, metal pieces called braces, which are individually adhered to the teeth, move the teeth thanks to the orthodontic wires passing between them. Braces made of tooth-colored or completely transparent material work on the same principle as metal braces. The most important difference of transparent braces is that they are less visible. In addition, they are mostly used in adults because they require more care and attention. Finally, lingual braces are fixed metal braces that adhere to the inner surface of the teeth. The most important feature is that they are never seen from the outside. Due to the differences in the treatment technique, treatment times are longer than front braces.
When is brace treatment done?
The International Orthodontic Association recommends orthodontic check-ups for all children aged 7 years. Preventive measures can be taken thanks to early control and early diagnosis. Braces treatment is usually started between the ages of 10 and 12. Nevertheless, taking preventive measures significantly increases the success rate of orthodontic treatments.
Does Braces Treatment Cause Pain or Soreness?
It is not possible to hurt in any way during the placement of braces on your teeth. It is normal to feel a slight sensitivity for a very short time after each appointment, as the arch wires on the teeth will be changed and force will be applied again during the monthly periods when you come for control.
Is there an age limit for orthodontics?
There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. Age is not important in dental corrections, orthodontic treatment can be applied to anyone with healthy bones surrounding the teeth. No matter how old the patient is, dental crowding can be corrected. However, if there is an irregularity in the jaw bones of the individual (upper jaw or lower jaw progression or retardation), then orthodontic treatment is required, and the timing of this treatment can be decided after the patient is examined one-on-one.
